Assateague State Park is an oceanfront beach camping park nestled between the Sinepuxent Bay and the Atlantic Ocean in Maryland.
There is a campground as well as an area designated for day use. Bath houses with hot showers make beach campers happy. Drive, bike, and tread carefully though…wild ponies wander freely throughout the park and you are sure to cross paths with them during your stay, whether it be for a week or just for the day.
In the summer months, you are almost guaranteed to find Assateague wild ponies dozing on the beach at sunrise.
Assateague State Park encompasses two miles of beautiful beach, bordered by Assateague Island National Seashore on both ends, with the Ocean City Inlet just nine miles north of the park entrance.
Assateague Island State Park is managed by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources in cooperation with the National Park Service.
We believe that beach camping is the best way to enjoy Assateague Island. With a beautiful uncrowded beach, wild ponies and a family atmosphere, what more could you ask for?
