Assateague Island abounds with amazing scenery and abundant wildlife. It's a safe, affordable place for a family beach vacation, couples getaway, or when you just want to relax and escape the daily grind.
If you like being surrounded by nature's beauty and having your own little stretch of beach without the crowds, Assateague will exceed your expectations.
This site is here to help you get the most out of your visit to Assateague. We don't want you to miss out on any of the scenery, wildlife and activities the island has to offer!
If you would like to try camping (and we highly recommend it!), allow us share our beach camping experiences with you so that you can spend more time enjoying your stay and less time dealing with the mistakes of the unprepared.
You may have heard of the famous wild Assateague ponies? We have stories about them too…and we'll show you how to keep them out of your coolers and tents so that you can enjoy their presence without your last bag of marshmallows oozing from their mouths!
If you are unfamiliar with Assateague Island, let us introduce you...
Assateague is a 37 mile-long barrier island situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sinepuxent Bay, located off the east coast of Maryland and Virginia.
In Maryland it consists of the Assateague Island National Seashore and Assateague State Park. In Virginia, the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge encompasses the remainder of the island. It's northern end is just a stone's throw from Ocean City, Maryland for those that want the best of both worlds.
You can experience all of this by visiting just for the day, or by camping in anything from a tent to an RV in designated areas. We enjoy beach camping in our pop-up camper several times a year.
Because of its uncrowded friendly atmosphere, affordability, gorgeous scenery and wildlife, Assateague Island has become our favorite vacation destination and we are sure it will become one of yours.
Like many, including us, you will be making your reservations for the following year before you even depart the island!
You know the kind of people who walk over after you've settled into your campsite, introduce themselves and say "hey, if you need anything just come on over!" Well that's us, and that will still be us when we're old and gray.
So if you happen to stumble upon our campsite during the course of your visit to Assateague Island, do stop by and say hello! We would love to hear your personal stories and how you've grown to love the island as much as we do.
